The transparent piece in between the two bouquets of roses have to be in a certain size and shape - and I couldn't possibly use glass, so I settled for acrylic instead. My father helped me to cut it out with a pen knife that has a blade specially for cutting acrylic (four times, because he was rushing and broke the first three) and drilled a hole in it. He even filed the sides with his - once again - vast collection of tools.
The acrylic piece is extended to a little stand at the bottom so that it will stick to the clay body better - I also had to make a hole in the clay, which resulted in emergency situations like it cracking open(it's not baked yet) through the whole body several times even after touching up. Fortunately it didn't crack after baking.
The moment I pieced them together gave me a huge shock - it's a whole lot creepier than expected..

Then came the nerve-wrecking step I've been trying to put off - baking the clay.
I did say I'm familiar with the medium, but not exactly experienced enough to bake without worrying about burning it and also to be sure that it's baked well enough.
One tip I read online was to make a roof out of aluminium foil over the clay in the oven to let the heat circulate evenly.
It didn't burn so I guess it worked!
